Santa Susana El Camino Neuvo loop
Overview
This is a moderate loop trail in Santa Susana State Historic Park.
Getting Started
This area can be very hot in the summer and there is very little shade, so you should carry sufficient water for several hours of hiking. There is are also many trails and off shoots, not all of which are listed on the map. It will be useful to have a copy of the California State Park map, https://www.parks.ca.gov/pages/611/files/SantaSusanaPassSHPWeb2016.pdf, which lists trails names not on the digital maps. Once there you'll find more trails which aren't listed on either map source.
The hike starts on Lilac Lane which at a dirt (free) parking lot. There is a restroom there. As you are coming from Santa Susana Pass road on Lilac Lane it will be on your left. Head east from the parking lot and then the trail will veer northeast.
About a mile in on the right hand side there are a series of picturesque rock structures some you can climb on and into.
After this area you'll wrap around to start the return and you'll get close to Santa Susana Pass Road you'll be looking for a left to connect back to the trail you entered on. If you miss that left you'll end up on Santa Susana but you can keep walking because there are trails near there that will take you back to the entrance.
Taking Children
There are, potentially, snakes, mostly it's a decent single track. There is a restroom. Be careful in summer because of the heat and lack of shade. There are some really fun rocks to hike on. Kids would probably like that.
