A lovely hike. I'd rate it easy to moderate. We went up with our family, including our five year old grandchild who did the whole hike unaided except for some watchful help with footing coming down a short steep section of the fire tower trail. We went up the long side of the loop to the summit and came down the shorter fire tower trail. Very pretty walking through the woods and there are some lovely views here and there near the top. The view from the top of the fire tower is unobstructed all around. Took us about 4 hrs. with our 5 year old, a three year old on and off in a pack, and an infant as a papoose.

Did the Elmore Mountain Trail out and back. Probably four or five feet of snow but it was cold and the trail was packed pretty well so no snowshoes required. Micro spikes helped on some of the slicker spots. The trip out and back is 4.4 miles with some fairly steep sections that will get your heart pounding. Views from the top toward the lake are spectacular. On this day there was no one else on the mountain, a real treat.
