Lake Catherine Loop
Overview
This is a moderate loop trail in Lake Catherine State Park, near Hot Springs, Arkansas.
This trail goes by Lake Catherine. and Falls Branch Falls.
Getting Started
There is ample parking for this trail at the trailhead, which is a start and end point for multiple trails. The trail is well defined, and marked with trail markers. Recent storm damage and downed trees mean that there is some slight re-routing in place, although this is very clearly marked.
Falls Branch Falls is fed by several smaller streams and creeks, and water runs even after long periods without rain. These falls form a large pool at the base prior to then draining on it to the nearby Lake Catherine. There are other smaller unnamed falls and cascades further upstream of the falls.
On this hike you can expect to encounter obstacles such as steep steps made from either rocks placed there or by embedded tree roots. The elevation changes overall are not significant, but there are several other short but steep areas on this hike. There are also several smaller drainage creek crossings to make, although most now have a bridge to safely navigate.
Pets on a leash are also able to use this trail.
Taking Children
This is a kid-friendly hike, but always be mindful of your children and especially at the steeper and higher points along the trail
