Kapalaoa Cabin via Halemauu Trail(edit)

Overview

This hike begins at Paliku and ends at Kapaloa in Haleakala National Park. There are two way to access Paliku, either hike up from the Kaupo Gap or down from the summit of Haleakala. Backpacking is allowed in the park by permit only: https://www.recreation.gov/

This hike is completely exposed. Have plenty of water, snacks, foul weather gear, and lights if you begin after noon. Only bathrooms are at the trailhead.
