Minnehaha Falls
Overview
This is a moderate out and back trail in Minnehaha Park.
This trail goes by Minnehaha Falls. The trail is heavily used. The trail on the north side of the creek is paved and easy to walk; the trail on the south side of the creek is narrow and tricky in places. Minnehaha Falls is the main point of interest. The falls are featured in a Longfellow poem titled "The Song of Hiawatha".
Getting Started
Parking at the Pavilion access to this trail is often crowded and there is a fee. Easier (and free) parking can be found at this location (44.916000, -93.206711). This location also provides easy access to the trail.
Taking Children
In the winter, the section of trail that is on the south side of Minnehaha creek can by icy with some risk of falling. The trail out to the Mississippi on the north side of the creek is paved and easy for families with children.
