Tolmie Peak
Overview
This is a moderate out-and-back trail to Eunice Lake with the option of a climb to Tolmie Peak fire lookout. The fire lookout offers an unparalleled view of Mount Rainier with Eunice Lake in the foreground. During the spring and summer months, wildflowers bloom in abundance along the trail. Bring plenty of bug spray and sunscreen as parts of the trail have no tree cover and mosquitos congregate around the lake.
Getting Started
Be prepared for the 17 miles of dirt road you have to travel to reach this trailhead. You don't need an SUV you just may need to go slower. Be courteous if you are moving slow and pull over if another vehicle behind you is coming up faster.
The trailhead is on the left side of the road a bit before the Mowich Campground parking lot. Park off to the side of the road. You need a National Parks pass or America the Beautiful pass for this area.
Taking Children
This is kid friendly. Though the push from Eunice Lake to Tolmie Peak is probably a bit steep for little ones.
