Overview
This is an easy out and back trail in Yellowstone National Park that hugs the canyon rim, providing stunning views.
When the trail begins to bend away from the canyon, this is the turn-around spot. You can make this a loop hike by continuing along back to the main road, but you will have to walk on the road for about a mile to return to the parking lot.
Keep an eye out for bears, buffalo, and marmots. (And always bring bear spray.)
Getting Started
Start at the picnic area parking lot, ascending to the canyon rim. This is the steepest part of the hike.
Taking Children
This is a great hike for kids. Once you hike up the initial ascent, the rest of the trail is fairly flat, aside from a few dips and rises. Bring water and sun hats in the summer, as there is minimal shade.
