Pierce Eisenhower via Crawford Path
Richard and Fred started on Crawford Path and did Mt Pierce and Mt Eisenhower in ideal conditions: temperature in the 20s, a few inches of snow and lots of thin ice on the trails, and mostly clear skies with little wind and lots of bright sun. We met at the Highland Center for breakfast (my second) and got started at 7:45 from the connection trail. We got to Pierce in 2:15, Eisenhower in 4:30, and back in 6:30, just about book time. Pretty good pace throughout. I tried more padding on the soles of my feet, hoping that would curtail blisters, but no joy there. Saw many hikers, two Canadian Jays, and some soaring crows. I wore microspikes throughout; Richard started with Stable-icers but switched to microspikes at Pierce. My external battery kept the iphone charged; I just had to be careful to keep the battery warm next to my leg and connected to the iphone. Summary: 9 mi, 3100' elevation, a little over book time.
