I really enjoyed this hike, which provides opportunities to see pretty vistas of the Flint Hills from higher vantage points. Seeing the prairie grasses and wildflowers up close was a must for me since this was my first time in Kansas.
I would rate the hike as Moderate rather than Difficult. About 90% of the trail is open prairie with no shade, and there are a couple of sections that go uphill for a short distance. For context, I am in my early 50’s. I carried 2 heavy cameras, water, and did the full loop on a hot August day. One nice thing is the opportunity to shorten the hike if desired, using one of the 2 cut through trails to the other side of the loop.
Bottom line-this hike is a great way to immerse yourself in a hilly Kansas prairie landscape.
