Camp Slater Loop via Ambassador Whitehouse Trail
Overview
This is a moderate loop trail in Sky Meadows State Park.
This trail goes by Camp Washington and Camp Slater.
Some locals call the South Ridge Trail the climb that never ends. While it is not a steep climb, it is long, and can wreak havoc on your legs. Howeverm the views from the top or magnificent. Be prepared with plenty of water. The trail is seems longer than its 7 mile rating would indicate, and water is in short supply even if you do bring a filter on the hike. Part of the trail hook into the Appalachian Trail, which runs through the park. This is a fantastic opportunity to get a first taste of that historic trail.
Taking Children
This is not a bad hike for children. With multiple loops, it is easy to make it as long or short as necessary. The South Ridge does climb forever (or so it seems) which may be difficult for younger children. 6/10
