Overview
This is a moderate out and back trail in Uncompahgre National Forest. You will start in a large aspen grove. Switchback up towards treeline. Steep sections throughout the trail. Once above treeline on the bench, the trail fades and you start following cairns. Head west, towards Telluride to the Richmond Saddle. You can easily summit South Hayden from here. There will be some 3 class terrain on the ridge to South Hayden.
Getting Started
Parking is hard to find. There is a small pullout in the trees near some mining waste. Follow road to the left to the parking area.
