Lower Peters Canyon Reservoir Loop via East Ridge View Trail
Overview
This is a multi use trail for hikers, walkers, families and mountain bikers. It has all level abilities as it has some steep uphills/downhills and lots of flat areas. There is a good amount of nature as you move along(birds, insects, coyotes, snakes) so keep an eye out. This is a hot sun hike and not much shade area- bring plenty of water and shade. You will hike around the small reservoir and can make a short loop back towards parking area or make a longer loop down to the south end and back.
Getting Started
There are several parking areas. Please be mindful if you park in neighborhoods that some areas require neighborhood permits to park. The main parking area is in the OC park system and you will have to pay to park there. From the main parking area, you will move along a wide fire trail and soon start uphill with a steep downhill to follow. I have seen people with strollers here but the downhill gets pretty narrow for a short bit. Either way you start your adventure, you will have an uphill and a downhill sections.
Taking Children
Its a great adventure for little ones. if they are out walking, keep and eye on them as there tends to be rattlesnakes in the area. There are a few viewpoints from the trails to see the water. They may even see someone on horseback. If children are in strollers, you will be happier. This is a great evening or early morning family place to walk. Bring water and shade. 1-3 Strollers with minimal walking. 4- 8. Keep an eye on them 9-+ educate prior to walking about nature and stay on trails.
