Rattlesnake Dance Ridge
Overview
The Rattlesnake Dance Ridge Trail is a steep and unforgiving hike through basalt rocks and low shrub steppe plants. An excellent hike in the colder months, but be sure to bring traction! Keep an eye out for Big-horn sheep, eagles and a host of smaller song birds. In the summer this trail is incredibly hot and dry, and though I’ve never seen a snake here, the frequent rocky hiding places and the name of the hike make me imagine everyone should exercise caution! When you reach the top sign the book in the ammo box!
Getting Started
Driving south on Canyon Rd, the small parking lot is hiding in the outside of a sharp corner. The trail begins very clearly from the lot, with a small sign indicating the name. From here the name of the game is up!
Taking Children
I have seen children on this hike, but the steep rocky terrain may be a challenge for some folks.
