Blumenthal Falls via Oregon Coast Trail
Overview
This is a moderate out and back trail past Blumenthal Falls to Short Sand Beach in Oswald West State Park. The hike can also be completed with a car shuttle.
While a coastal trail, most of the hike is through a spruce forest with few views until the trail finally heads west to Cape Falcon. Keep an eye out for the obvious, yet unsigned spurs to a lookout point and to Blumenthal Falls. The trail can be very muddy, especially south of Cape Falcon.
Expect to see few other hikers from Arch Cape to Cape Falcon and then a horde of others between Cape Falcon and Short Sand.
See Oregon State Park sites for more information on the Oregon Coast Trail and Oswald West Park trails.
Getting Started
From highway 101 head east on East Beach Road near Arch Cape. East Beach quickly heads south. Continue on the paved road as it turns left (east) and becomes E Shingle Mill Lane. The trail starts on the right (south) in 0.3 miles at 3rd Street. This gravel road appears to be driveway, but has a very small Oregon Coast trail logo and a handmade sign to park on E Shingle Mill Lane. The gravel road becomes a trail at Arch Cape Creek, which is crossed on a suspension bridge.
Taking Children
A long hike for children.
