God's Thumb Loop via The Knoll
Overview
This is a moderate loop trail to God's Thumb in Siuslaw National Forest.
The God’s Thumb hike is a wonderful experience that takes you through the forest to a basalt formation known as The Thumb (aka God’s Thumb). The Thumb is technically on county land, does not have its own trailhead, and should be approached from The Knoll, which is an Open Space hike maintained by the City of Lincoln City.
Getting Started
Please do not trespass on private property
There has been confusion over the years regarding the correct trailhead. Efforts have been made to update the various hiking sites and map references to correctly document the approved trailhead.
The “official” trailhead for Gods Thumb is via The Knoll, an open space trail maintained by the City of Lincoln City. The Knoll’s official trailhead parking is found on NE Devil’s Lake Blvd.
Taking Children
The hardest section is right at the start but very easy after that.
Proceed with Caution to the top of Gods Thumb ! People have been seriously hurt while attempting the final part of the hike. Most visitors recommend stopping at the base of The Thumb, aka the High Meadow.
