Big Tree Loop via Prairie Creek Trail and West Ridge Trail
Overview
This is a moderate loop trail in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. Like all trails in the Redwood Parks, you're surrounded by big trees, but this trail has some exceptionally big trees (hence the name). The loop is fairly easy, and you encounter some streams along the way before making your way to the massive downed tree. This is not the big tree the trail is named after. Keep walking a little bit further and you'll encounter a viewing deck with an info kiosk about the two massive trees you're standing amongst.
This trail goes by Corkscrew Tree and Big Tree.
Getting Started
This trail is easy to miss if you're not paying attention, and the trailhead on the North end is a quite hidden. The South end is more clearly marked. It is pull-off parking like much of the Redwood trails.
Taking Children
An excellent, easy hike for children.
