Second Water Trail #236
Overview
This is a moderate loop trail to Hackberry Spring in Tonto National Forest.
This trail goes by Hackberry Mesa as well as the Hackberry Spring Loop. Beautiful desert flora and varied geology make this a very pleasant and interesting hike.
This trail can also be used as a great 'beginner' backpacking trail with ample spots to setup camp along the trail. Please remember to always follow Leave No Trace principles!
Getting Started
This hike can be completed from either the Hiker or Equestrian "First Water" trailheads. If completing this hike counter-clockwise, be sure not to miss the Hackberry Spring junction from the Second Water trail at just over 2 miles in. If you miss this junction, you will find your hike ending and Canyon Lake instead of back at your vehicle.
Taking Children
There is some elevation gain and loss over this hike, but none of it is especially strenuous. There are a couple spots with some drop offs where you will want to hold the hands of little ones.
