North entrance is closed due to lots of blowdown and wash out. Fragile ecosystem so don’t be selfish and go that route. Follow park ranger guidelines, keeps the area safe and less importantly, humans safe.
The south entrance was a great climb. Several stops for photos of south Nehalem bay on the way up.
There is an intersection with logging rd that I will hit next time to make it a lollipop. I also like to see all the deforestation that private empires continue to do within our state rec areas. Adds fuel to my fire.
Overall it’s a short but steep climb through a mix of old growth and second generation forest. Lots of birds to listen to and spot up high. The summit is really stunning. Good Little Rock to rest on, drink and snack before heading back. Lots of tree roots, and trail washes out here and there.
Fragile area so please leave no trace (bring a god damn poop kit for your tribe), and pick up after yourselves and all the little piggies out there that think everything is there’s to ruin.
