Overview
This is a loop hike to Mt. Tammany Lookout in Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.
The red dot trail is not an EASY hike, its short in length but has 1200ft of elevation.
Taking Children
This hike is appropriate for children, however, children under 5 years of age may find it too strenuous for their liking. Proper footwear is a must! This hike is directly off of Route 80, but the proximity to the highway does not mean easy. There are steep drop offs, please keep dogs leashed.

This trail is very difficult. I took my wife, 3 daughters and two dogs. Do not try and go late in the day, getting caught in the dark in the woods, not fun. It took us over 4 hours, not 2 something posted everywhere. My GPS tracked 4.7 miles red trail to blue trail loop. Wear good boots. Take more water then you think you need, and something to eat. You will need to stop frequently as you go up the red trail. After some points on the red trail, it is difficult to change your mind, turn around and go back. If anyone in your group does not hike regularly, I would exercise caution trying this.

Really difficult. Clambering up the rocks, the elevation climb, and then realizing you can't turn around and go back to the trail head (because you brought your dogs). But I always appreciate the tougher hikes. The hate/love relationship. The view is breathtaking. The gnat swarms were annoying. It was all worth it for the view. Will not do again with dogs. They enjoyed it (2 80lb boxer dogs) but I was worried about their paws the whole time. Bring plenty of water for them and sports drinks for yourself. You will need it. Enjoy the blue dot trail on the way down and go wash the salt off your face in the falls off the Dunnfield creek trail back to the parking lot. This trail is well marked. Pay attention to the red dots and the arrows. They will be on the trees and the rocks. Just follow the dots and don't give up. ;)

We hiked it with my 3 years old kid just fine. The most steepest part he walked on his own and the rest I carried him on my shoulders. The view is gorgeous. We saw a dead deer in the river, so definitely do not drink from there
