Overview

Very nice spring and fall hike...dont go in the summer; too dry, hot, and not near as scenic. Nice clean parking and picnic area, along with 2 toilets. No water there that I saw. Hike begins with 1 mile descent to the San Joaquin River. After crossing the impressive bridge over the river, hikers can go either direction for an approximate 5 mile loop, that begins and ends near the bridge. Yesterday's hike was beautiful, with running streams and temporary waterfalls all along the trail due to recent heavy rainfall. Wildflowers just starting to pop, and the ground is a green carpet of grass.....this is a good hike to do several times a year. Great lunch spot on the ridge top with incredible views of the adjacent tabletop mountains....

Decent half-day hike. Right now everything is brown and dry, but the river is flowing. This hike is best in winter and spring, after a bit of rain has turned the landscape green again.
