Tent Ridge Loop
Overview
A locals favourite! On a nice day this hike is one of the best in the entire Kananaskis and Banff areas. Start by hiking through the woods into a small bowl that can be filled with lush grass while surrounded by the remainder of your day. You'll head up the ridge on a spectacular loop has a fun little section (10') of scrambling. After gaining the ridge you have 360-degree views until you reach the end of the ridge with a panoramic view of Spray Lake. Descend back down for a quick traipse through the woods back to the car.
In the winter this area is known for significant avalanche danger.
This is a difficult loop trail to Tent Ridge in Spray Valley Provincial Park.
This trail goes by Tryst Lake.
11.5km round trip. Recommend starting at the south trailhead and going clockwise so that you do the scrambly section on the way up and the easier way on the way down. The view gets better with every step. Do the loop, don't go up and down as the views are incredible the entire way around. You are only in the trees for the first 1-2km then it opens up and you start gaining elevation and views.
Getting Started
This hike is located in Spray Valley Provincial Park along Hwy 742. 1.8km from the Mt Engadine Lodge turnoff there's a pulloff on the right hand side just past the trailhead (marked by a sign at a cutblock on the left).
Once you're all geared up and ready to go, hike a short ways down the road where you'll find the trailhead marked by a sign that goes up along a cutblock. From here, you are on your way!
Taking Children
This hike may be unsuitable for children due to the technical sections.
