Cape Falcon via Oregon Coast Trail
Overview
This is a moderate out and back trail to Cape Falcon in Oswald West State Park.
This trail goes by Short Sand Beach and Blumenthal Falls.
You'll hike through beautiful old growth forest, passing by Short Sand Beach. Be aware that you may encounter a large amount of mud and sometimes downed trees after heavy rains.
Once you get to the end of the trail (at Cape Falcon), you'll have to push through some very heavy bush overgrowth to get out to the furthest point on the cape. Enjoy the views, and turn around to head back the way you came.
Getting Started
There are multiple parking lots that provide access to this trailhead. If driving south, the first lot you pass on your right will put you right at the trailhead as indicated on this map. Driving a couple hundred feet further down the road will get you to a large parking lot with a few hundred spaces and bathrooms. Another smaller lot is a couple hundred feet further down the road.
There is no cost for parking here, and no permits need to be filled out to hike here.
Taking Children
This is not a great hike for children due to a few areas with steep drop-offs and the trail not being maintained well in certain areas.
