Twin Peaks via Tahoe Rim Trail and Pacific Crest Trail
Overview
This is a difficult one way trail in Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit.
Most people set up a vehicle shuttle parking one vehicle at Ward Creek and another at Barker Pass trailhead.
Starting the hike at Barker Pass makes for less elevation gain. There are several small uphill sections and one long uphill section to the Twin Peaks ridge. After the first 5 miles the trail is downhill the rest of the way to Ward Creek.
There is an unmaintained trail up to the top of East Twin Peak just before starting the downhill to Ward Creek.
Some of the Trail is open to mtn bikes so be aware.
Unfortunately the last 1.5 miles to Ward Creek trailhead is through a forest timber cutting operation. This makes for a somewhat disappointing end to a beautiful hike.
This trail goes by Barker Peak and Twin Peaks.
