Lots and lots of stairs, roots and washouts. Viewpoints at 4.7 km were nice. The hike starts in the forest among beautiful bamboo. There are many steps along the hike. We started around 6:30 am and we did not see anyone on the trail until around 8 am. We started from town and it was only a 5-minute walk. We recommend this hike since it is the tallest peak 2,454 ft (748 m) in the Sun Moon Lake area and is easily accessible. There are several viewing platforms along the way. We, unfortunately, had foggy and smoky views on the day that we went. We did not go all the way to the summit but to the highest viewing platform for the views.
