Duckabush river trail to 5 mile camp 5/29/20 8:21:25 AM
Good weather. Pit toilet not cleaned due to covid. Trail is brushy. 2 small trees across trail before big Hump, 37 after to cross the 2 miles to 5 mile camp. Some easy and some over or under trees. WTA trail crews needed.
People on trail respectful of distancing. Saw 3 parties of 2 with plans to camp at 5 mile camp. Saw one party of adult female and child gathering fire wood at first river lunch spot. Smelled like camp fire from night before. There was an old fire in this area I hope they are cautious.
This is a great conditioning hike, we were slow due obstacles, taking photos. Lots of wild flowers, some rhodies blooming.Bugs are just starting to arrive. Take lots of water, this was first hot day in low 70's and we each consumed at least 2 liters of water, had more in car post hike hydration. Side note. Phase 2 carry a mask and don't be overwhelming small businesses in Hoodsport or along 101. People not observing proper rules for phase 2. Keep trails open with leave no trace and proper distancing. Be over prepared do not rely on first responders. Pack food for after hike, have a snack in an open area. Fill your gas tank before leaving. Road in suitable for all cars, lots of pot holes to avoid. Saw some elk grazing like cows right off 101 on Duck road. Nice shady hike for warmer days.
