Overview
This is an easy out and back trail in Santa Fe National Forest.
The first 3/4 mile gets heavy traffic from people heading to the lake (San Gregorio Reservoir) to fish. As soon as you pass the lake, the trail becomes a narrow path and you'll see very few other hikers.
Getting Started
Use the parking lot for the San Gregorio Reservoir.
Taking Children
Great hike for kids. Relatively flat. Some fallen logs that they'll need to climb over.

Beautiful trail (once you get past the fallen trees that have been decimated by drought, disease, or beetles). Don't count on any water to be available for filtering. I was up there on Labor Day and September 15th. On Labor Day, the stream was barely a trickle. Mid-September, the stream was mostly dry with occasional puddles. I was glad that we all brought sufficient water.
