Gobblers Knob via Glacier View Wilderness
This was a moderately short, mid-June hike with more than its share of rewards. The nicely filtered sunshine, mildly cool temperatures, lack of mosquitoes and crowds made things comfortable. The highlights were the expansive Beljica meadows, almost fully emerged from winter’s snowy blanket, followed by picturesque and secluded Goat Lake dotted with primitive lakefront campsites, and the old Gobblers Knob fire lookout with astounding views. Between these highlights my hike passed through open forest carpeted with blooming glacier lilies and red huckleberry which are already setting blossoms and small berries. I encountered a few snowfields, but none were a navigational challenge.
