Overview
This is a difficult out and back trail to Red Mountain in Gifford Pinchot National Forest.
This trail goes by Crest Camp Trailhead, Sheep Lakes, and Green Lake.
This hike takes you to an abandoned fire lookout with sweeping views of all of the local stratovolcanoes. It's absolutely stunning, and I've never known it to be overly crowded.
Note: You may not sleep in or camp at the fire lookout.
Getting Started
Depending on road conditions, you may have to park at the gate and add an additional 1.5 miles (each way) to your trip.
Taking Children
This is a steep hike, so it is difficult, but terrain-wise it is fairly easy.
