Silver Star Mountain via Bluff Mountain Trail #172
Overview
This is a difficult one way trail to Silver Star Mountain in Gifford Pinchot National Forest.
Bluff Mountain trail is a long ridge-top route to Sliver Star Mountain that passes Little Baldy. Most of the trail is exposed and rocky and as a result offers great views. Silver Star Mountain and Little Baldy (if you make the scramble to the top) both offer views to Mounts Hood, St Helens, Adams, Rainier, Jefferson on clear days. In season you are also able to see wild flowers abound. This is the longest and least used trail to Silver Star Mountain.
Getting Started
Trailhead is located at a former logging landing (the trailhead and initial portion of the trail have probably changed since their inception due to past logging operations). There is no signage designating this location as the trailhead. There are no facilities at the trailhead. There is more than sufficient parking spots available.
The trail is now approximately 2.20miles from the trailhead via a former logging road. You can drive down the logging road to where the the trail breaks with the road but it is a one lane with minimal locations to pull off and you will need a vehicle with sufficient clearance and 4-wheel/AWD.
