This trail has campgrounds near the base where you can stay for up to 2 weeks. This is first come first served and leaving your camping supplies; tent, sleeping bag, chairs, at your site is supposed to mark that this site is taken. However my girlfriend was just staying at this campground when a family drove their pickup truck and a bus onto her site while she was gone, claimed it for themselves, stole some of her supplies and then lied about it to her face when asked. This shouldn't happen. Rangers are supposed to patrol the campgrounds in the area and help enforce regulations and keep everyone safe. However she had been at this campground for over a week already when this happened and in that time never saw a single ranger come through. In the end she was forced to leave without getting her stuff back and cut her trip short, not feeling safe camping near thieves. The forest services really need to do a better job, campers shouldn't have to worry about their campsites or possessions being stolen.

This is a beautiful place- but I cannot give it a FULL 5 stars like I originally was going to. I was staying here on my trip through New Hampshire, and was invested in staying the full 2 weeks. I asked the ranger, and he said to “show that you are still occupying the lot, leave your camp gear up, that way no one will come and take your lot”. I work remotely, so Monday- Friday I come down the mountain and go to a local Walmart for wifi for a few hours, I come back and a man and his family not only took my lot, even though my foldable chair was there, mugs next to the fire pit, and my sleeping bag for camping was there- but they STOLE my foldable chair. They deliberately pulled their car into the opening of the lot so I could not get in, then proceeded, while my items were still there, to pull in a massive “bang bus” titled school bus, and another vehicle. When I confronted them about it, they lied and said the “ranger walked through” and gave them the ok to take my lot. The ranger ok’d taking my lot even though a person’s things were there? Even though it clearly shows a person is still occupying the lot? The ranger ok’d stealing my items as well? Ultimately, I was so disgusted with these people stealing from me, lying, and abusing the trust and basic decency that humans should have to one another, I left entirely. The system needs to be enforced more here, and lots checked up on regularly with who is staying there and for how long. not coming back again and will not recommend to anyone and everyone

Hot and humid day and not super buggy. Flat 2 miles in and then lots of slippery rocks on the ascent from the previous night. The hut before the summit is awesome for food, water and bathrooms, as well as weather and shelter. Take the spur for the lookout, as the summit is in the woods, marked by a cairn. Nice stop by the river to cool your achy feet.

Mount Galehead via Gale River trail (8/11/19, 9:07:29AM)
A bit muddy, otherwise a moderate to easy hike. Moderate because it is 10 miles long. Steep for about a mile. Beautiful views from the Galehead hut and from the outlook near the summit. No view from the summit itself. Just a cairn to mark the summit.
