Mount Morrison (Evergreen)
Overview
This is a difficult out and back trail in MatthewWinters Park, offering a great workout and less crowds. Mt. Morrison is the peak right behind Red Rocks Amphitheatre. There are great views of Red Rocks as well as many surrounding peaks. Whoever constructed the trail did not believe in switchbacks; the trail starts off climbing steeply right away and generally goes straight uphill. The trail is very obvious and easy to follow most of the way. The final section to the summit is a bit of a scramble (fun but nothing too exposed, maybe class 2). There is isn't much shade on the trail, so be sure to bring plenty of water and sun protection. The descent can be challenging due to the steepness and loose sand/gravel. Footwear with good traction/ankle support is recommended, and hiking poles can be very helpful for the descent.
This trail goes by Red Rocks Park.
Getting Started
