Fun hike, can make as long or short as you want. I’ve just recently moved to the area, and so just discovered and began hiking this in the snowy winter. I wouldn’t personally call this an altogether easy hike—the elevation is pretty decent and the terrain can be unpredictable with over a foot of snow on the ground. Definitely recommend microspikes for doing this in the winter, as the ascent where they have chains is pretty steep. You can go either way around the rim and since there is a trail through the middle of the caldera you can make this a figure 8 journey to increase or decrease your mileage

Trail conditions are great in the fall and people scarce, which makes it a good time to hike this 3.2 mile trail. If you have time, you can also do this hike as a figure 8 pattern to get some extra mileage in. On occasion, while walking through the center of the crater, you may get lucky and see some deer.
