Peru Peak via Long Trail
Overview
This is a moderate out and back trail in Green Mountain National Forest.
This trail goes by Peru Peak and Styles Peak.
Styles Peak's vistas and elevation of 3,394' is reached via a moderate climb with switchbacks. There are several good views along the climb (especially in the winter), and a small vista at the summit offers a glimpse of Ascutney.
Getting Started
An alternative starting point for this trip is the Mad Tom Notch Road trailhead in Peru. Follow route 11 out of Manchester passed Bromley Mountain, take a slight left on Main Street in Peru, take another slight left onto Hapgood Pond road at the intersection in front of the general store. After the road turns into a well maintained dirt road, take a left onto Mad Tom Notch road and follow it uphill. The trailhead is found just passed the road crossing on the lefthand side. Please note, in the winter you will need to use the winter parking area located approximately 1 mile below the trailhead on Mad Tom Notch road.
Taking Children
This trail, especially from Mad Tom Notch, is a moderate climb. However, pushing on passed Peru Peak takes you to Griffith Lake which is a treat for the young and young at heart.
