Fern Canyon
Overview
This is a easy out and back trail to Fern Canyon in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. We have a yearly national park pass, which this park accepted. The trail head does have bathrooms.
Getting Started
To access this trail head, you drive on a step then rutted dirt road. With 2 stream crossings. For near 30 minutes. But it is a very scenic drive. We did it in a pick up truck, but half of the cars we saw, did make it to the trail head. Others parked and walked the rest of the rutted road. Part of this road is parallel to the ocean where people were tent camping. Which looked beautiful.
Taking Children
Children will love this hike. Logs have been placed across and up this creek, which you can walk on. You can hop and scramble over these logs. I am 42 and loved it. These logs probably come and go(washed away) though. This stream was under 1.5 feet deep. Lots of mud. Unable people were just walking in the stream. Bring old shoes, or water shoes.
