Balsam Swamp Loop (AKA Pinchot Trail Loop)(edit)

Overview

This is a difficult loop trail to Balsam Swamp in State Game Land No. 91.

This trail goes by Big Pine Hill Lookout Tower, Big Pine Hill, and Balsam Swamp.

This trail can be divided into two loops, North and South, both connected by Bear Lake Road. The Southern Loop can be especially swampy after a rain storm.

There are many campsites located along this trail.

Getting Started

The main lot is located off of Bear Lake Road, next to a sign that says "Pinchot Trail Trailhead", however farther west on the road is another lot that can also be used, especially for the South Loop.

Taking Children

This is a moderate trail; young children may have a difficult time. This trail would make a very good first backpacking trail.
