Castle Rock Loop via John Emerson Summit Trail
Overview
This is a easy loop trail to Castle Rock in Rock Park.
The gravel trail meanders around the West side of Castle Rock and gently rises toward the base of the Rock. Nearing the top, the trail gets a little steeper and some stone steps easily navigate the switchback taking you to the base of the Rock.
From the Rock you can return to the parking lot via the same trail, or descend on the east side.
While you can climb with some difficulty to the top of the Rock, the stairs have been removed, as several hikers have fallen from the unguarded rim of the Rock, and signs are posted prohibiting ascent.
Getting Started
Parking is in a small lot off of Front Street, and there are trash cans, and covered picnic benches. There are no outhouses.
Taking Children
A great hike for children as it is short, and easy to walk. The view across Castle Rock is awesome and the rock formation along the route and in the Rock itself are quite interesting.
This is an alternate route for Castle Rock Loop via John Emerson Summit Trail and Paul Hill Trail.
