This is far from a difficult hike., not sure why it is rated that. The 700ft elevation is up to the Mesa and includes a minor rock scramble. The hike on the Mesa is flat. Super easy. Gorgeous, gorgeous views of the Colorado River from above. Good for dogs. Directions app are perfect and get you to the trailhead. This is a hiking only trail.

In Rabbit Valley area of McGinnis Canyon. Exit 2 off of I70. Left at first split past cattle guard. 4.5 miles down dirt road to trailhead. Road is usually in very good shape (when dry) and standard cars have clearance. If camping or RV plenty of first come free camping.
Trail maps show hike as being 4.8 miles. Which is correct for the loop...however the spur out and back to the loop is approx. 1.5 miles round trip and not flat. Total trip is roughly 6.1. Most of the elevation gain is on the spur.
Was muddy and in places icy. Didn't feel like I needed extra foot traction but I would suggest trekking poles. I've hiked this trail several times. I would suggest trek poles in any type of condition.
