Community Ditch Trail and Mesa Valley Trail Loop
Overview
This is a popular and easy loop trail on Marshall Mesa. Expect hikers, runners, and mountain bikers (and very occasionally, equestrians). The lower part of the loop is relatively easy and flat, and has a somewhat steep climb on the east end as you go up to the Community Ditch trail. A lot of this trail is out in the open, so it can get very hot on a hot summer day. Be sure to bring plenty of water. The trail along the ditch is flat and has a decent surface, which is easy for hiking and running. The Coal Seam trail on the western edge is narrow and rocky. Be on the lookout for traffic in this area!
Getting Started
Park at the Marshall Mesa trailhead off CO 171 (Eldorado Springs road) which is a VERY busy parking area. Expect it to be full on weekends.
Taking Children
This is a good hike for kids if it's not too hot. You are likely to see deer early in the morning, and the views are nice.
