Maud Lake via Rockbound Trail
Overview
This is a easy one way trail to Maud Lake in Eldorado National Forest.
This trail goes by Beauty Lake. It has less elevation gain than the other trails going from the Twin Lakes trailhead.
Getting Started
Park at the Rockbound trailhead on the west side of Wrights Lake. This doesn't usually fill up on summer weekends like the Twin Lakes trailhead parking does. The trailhead is just across the road from the north exit from the parking lot. The trail ascends a ridge known as Telephone Hill where there's good cell phone coverage. It then goes north to Beauty Lake and around the northwest shore of the lake. The trail at the junction just before Beaty Lake goes back to Wrights Lake. Continue past Beauty Lake and the trail eventually meets the trail from the Twin Lakes Trailhead. Then it's fairly level, past the branch to Gertude Lake and across a couple of creeklets that are good until mid-fall. It ascends to the divide where there are good views of the Jones Fork drainage. The pool at the summit is good until late fall. Then down to the Jones Fork and up to Willow Flat and then the final ascent to Maude Lake.
Taking Children
Generally ok. Some drop-offs as the trail goes along the gorge just before Maude Lake
