Lewis & Clark Trail and Lewis trail Loop
Overview
This is a moderate to difficult loop trail in Weldon Spring Conservation Area. Leaving the trailhead counter clockwise, the terrain is mostly flat until you get close to the river overlooks - beautiful. The limestone hills provide a varied terrain. While there are a few steep hills, the hills are generally moderate and the footing is sure. Once down to the creek in the middle of the trail (working clockwise) there’s a cut-off to the Clark Trail (follow trailmarks to the left). This cutoff has a long steep section before it regions the Lewis Trail loop. The rest of the Lewis Trail loop again is a varied terrain.
Overall the Lewis Trail, like its shorter sibling, is well marked and maintained. You’ll find many fellow hikers and trail runners. The river overlooks are a perfect spot to rest and have a snack while enjoying the view. Bring everything you’ll need as there is no water (unless you want to filter from the creek) along the way.
Getting Started
There is ample parking at the trailhead. The trailhead is at the back of the parking lot. Follow the trail past the signs and then to the right for the counter clockwise circuit
Taking Children
Neither the Lewis nor Clark trails are suited for younger kids due to the varied terrain and length.
