Overview

This is a moderate out and back trail to Shealor Lake in Eldorado National Forest, mostly easy, but there are some steep sections which could preclude its use by young children and very small dogs. Attention must be paid to the rock cairns or "ducks" in order to stay on the trail. It is not always obvious. The views are spectacular and the terrain varies from forest to open, rocky ridges, and of course, the lake itself. In the spring, there are waterfalls. Parking is very easy in the lot next to the trailhead.

Short and sweet. We swam in the lake. Looks like a nice place to camp. I think you get much bang for you buck in terms of a short hike but feeling like you're remote and getting a good dose of nature.

Parking is convenient but no restrooms. Beautiful scenery with some very steep sections. Pay attention to the trail markers (rock cairns), as it’s easy to miss a turn in the rocky stretches. My favorite spot for a quick hike.
