Bristlecone Trail Loop
Overview
Moderate-to-difficult scenic loop offering views of the ski slope and surrounding mountains. This loop combines the Upper and Lower Bristlecone (out and back) hikes. Lower trail is primarily a gravel forest road and exposed. Upper trail becomes narrow and has a few moderately challenging portions along steep drop-offs. It is on the more shaded side and may have snow/ice later in the year. Features several distinct environments from wooded/forest to open rock.
NOTE: May see portions of the trail with snow/ice as late as May.
Getting Started
Start the loop from either the Upper Trailhead or the Lower Trailhead (near the campgrounds). Ample parking at both locations. For a slightly easier hike, start at the Lower Trailhead, walking downhill along the paved road at the end of the hike to return to parking.
Taking Children
5/10. Consider either only the Lower Bristlecone trail or a shortened version of the Upper Bristlecone trail turning back before the more challenging parts. Only older, sure-footed, trustworthy children should attempt the loop. Steep drops and precarious footing along the Upper trail.
