Mount Markham, Mt. Lowe, San Gabriel Peak & Mount Disappointment “Four Peaks” (1/18/21, 11:03:33AM)
In honor of MLK Jr. Day, Lark (my husky) & I hiked from: Mt. Wilson Red Box Rd. - Eaton Saddle - Motorway Mt. Lowe - Markham Saddle - Mt. Lowe Trail - Mt.Markham descending & took Mt. Lowe Trail - Mt. Lowe - descending & took Mt. Lowe Trail - back to Markham Saddle where we picked up San Gabriel Trail - San Gabriel Peak - descending, where we took Disappointment Rd - Mt. Disappointment descending & picked up the Mt. Disappointment Rd. - Bill Riley Trail & back on Mt. Wilson Red Box Rd. - to my car.
Weather: today was perfect! Sunny in the high 60’s. No clouds. Breeze picked up at the end, when I got to the last segment of the hike.
Animal Sightings: squirrels, chipmunks, birds
Trail conditions: very good. Still few patches of snow at San Gabriel Peak. None at the others.
Water: no source of water.
Other Hikers: None on Markham, 1 on Mt. Lowe, 6 on San Gabriel Peak none on Mt. Disappointment
The cool thing of the day: besides the whole hike...was the passing through the tunnel on the way to Markham Saddle. Spooky, but interesting thinking of the history of the place & wondering what life must have been like in the 1930’s ....
Today was another gorgeous hiking day!
