Up to 12,633'. 3300 feet of elevation gain. 10 miles, round trip. ERM (Energy Required Miles) of 23. Rocks and tree roots make travel slow, it's not a "normal" trail. (That is, it is difficult.) The whole range of peak is properly referred to as San Francisco Mountain. It's a stratovolcano. The trail begins at the Arizona Snowbowl ski resort intrusion in the Coconino National Forest. Humphreys Peak was named in about 1870 for General Andrew A. Humphreys, a U.S. Army officer who was a Union general during the American Civil War, and who later became Chief of Engineers of the United States Army Corps of Engineers.
