Clifty Falls State Park is just outside of Madison. For this trip I entered the North entrance but there is another entrance on the south off Hwy 56. Just to be clear, it really was not a water fall. It is really trickle but I suppose if there is recent rain it would have been more; however, this has been one of the rainiest summers in a while. Nonetheless, I started with trail 8 all the way down to the the creek bed. There is an earlier cutoff to trail too but I opted not to take it on the way out. Once I reached the creek bed, that was trail 2. It literally follows up the middle of the rocky creek bed. This was pretty cool because if you watch you can find all sort of fossils on the rocks. Most of what I found were imprints of seashells but I also found some rocks that were porous like sponges. Trail 2 goes almost all the way to where you can see the falls and then, once you can here it, you encounter the sign that says no one allowed beyond this point which is a bit of a bummer. It's pretty cool beyond that point or so I hear. Looks like lots of potential for rock slides so be cautious. On the way back out I opted for the early exit from trail 2 to trail 8 which was pretty darn steep but got me back to the trail head quicker.
