Chivo Falls
Length: 5.2 miles
Chivo Falls or as the local residents call it, Chiva Falls, is one of my favorite trails in the Tucson area. It offers a couple different four wheeling challenges while delivering a 75 foot waterfall and spectacular views of the Mount Lemmon and Rincon Mountain region. The Three Feathers section at the beginning of the trail offers a couple different challenges for those looking to push their limits. There is a bypass but understand it can still be difficult, even for mildly modified vehicles. The waterfall that the trail is named for, does not continuously run therefor planning around the weather is critical to have the complete experience. Fall and Spring offer the best chances for catching the water flowing over the falls. Be cautious, flash floods happen often in these types of areas and can become very dangerous or even deadly. The area is incredibly scenic with pristine desert landscapes, with the destination point being the trails namesake. Driving up above the falls where you can lounge in one of the many pools is another bonus when the water is flowing.
