This section of the AT takes you up and over Brush Mtn. There is a bit of WWII history on this mountain. The most decorated soldier of WWII was Audie Murphy, included in his awards were the Silver Star and Medal of Honor. He died in 1971 when his private plane crashed into this mountain. There is now a monument on the top of the mountain in his memory. It is no easy task to make it to the mountain. Eight miles round trip and 1500 feet of elevation gain, whether you start at Rte 620 or 621. I noticed that this section of AT was well-maintained and a little less rocky than some of the miles just to the north.
