Lower Covington Flat Road - Joshua Tree National Park

Lower Covington Flat Road is an easy dirt road located in Joshua Tree National Park and connects with Upper Covington Flat Road and many hiking trails.
There are avoidable ruts and no boulders on this trail, meaning most vehicles with moderate clearance should be able to make it to the picnic area at the end. Upper Covington Flat Road does require a little bit more from your vehicle (Subaru's, Jeep's, SUV, Trucks, etc should be fine).
During winter weather like snow or rain, the Park will close this area to all non-4x4 vehicles.
Lower Covington Flat Road and Upper Covington Flat Road do not connect to any paved roads nor do they connect to the main area of the Park. The road leading to Lower Covington Flat Road is also a dirt road that rain or snow will make difficult.
The Covington Flat area is absolutely beautiful, especially with the snow sprinkled around. If you have time, I would highly suggest this area to escape the crowds with a half-day excursion.
This area is not well patrolled, has limited cell coverage, has no running water, and has much less traffic than the main area of the park, so plan and prepare accordingly.
